The significance of gas power generation lies primarily in safety. During coal mining, if the methane volume fraction in the air exceeds 10%, an explosion will occur when exposed to an open flame. By using a negative pressure fan to extract gas to the ground for power generation and utilization, the underground gas concentration is reduced while achieving energy recovery. Gas power generation is divided into three steps: gas extraction, combustion, and electrical energy conversion.

The gas concentration determines the utilization method. At present, gas utilization in various mining areas is divided into three categories based on concentration: gas with a concentration of over 30% can be directly used for power generation; Gas with a concentration of 8% -30% can be used for low concentration gas power generation through internal combustion engines; Ultra low concentration gas with a concentration of 0.5% -8% needs to be treated using methods such as mixed heat counter current heat storage oxidation. Gas internal combustion generator sets have a wide range of adaptability to gas concentration, and can be used at concentrations above 8%. They also require low intake pressure (only 3-35kPa), which makes them widely used in the field of gas power generation.
从环保效益看,以某煤电化公司为例,年可利用煤矿井下瓦斯约6亿标准立方米,相当于减排二氧化碳约900万吨,转化为清洁电力约20亿千瓦时,相当于植树造林2.45万公顷。这一数据直观展示了瓦斯发电的减排潜力。
From the perspective of environmental benefits, taking a coal to electricity company as an example, the annual utilization of underground gas in coal mines is about 600 million standard cubic meters, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 9 million tons and converting it into clean electricity of about 2 billion kilowatt hours, equivalent to afforestation of 24500 hectares. This data intuitively demonstrates the emission reduction potential of gas power generation.
